Stupid villains

Sometimes I’m seriously surprised just how retarded some villains are. In kiddy cartoons I can somewhat imagine the villain is portrayed as an idiot to keep it comical. But in movies intended for mature viewer I sometimes see the same dumb villain in which it’s no surprise the hero manages to defeat the villain. Not necessarily because the hero is brave or anything like that but simply because the villain is an idiot.

Terminator Salvation was released on DVD last week and when I saw it again I immediately thought about idiotic villains. I mean, the whole purpose of the first Terminator movie was to kill Sarah Connor so that she couldn’t give birth to John Connor, the leader of mankind in the future against the machines.

The only reason why Sarah Connor gets knocked up with John Connor is because she fucked Kyle Reese, John Connor’s dad. So, if Kyle Reese were to die in the future before he travels back to the past, wouldn’t that prevent John Connor from being born?

I would think so. So, why do the machines when they capture Kyle Reese in the future don’t immediately kill that little son of a bitch? No Kyle Reese, no John Connor I’d say.

But no, the machines decide to let Kyle live and use him as bait to get John Connor. How often has the villain lost because they didn’t kill their opponent when they had the chance?

Anyway, this was the machine’s first mistake.

At the end of the movie when John Connor has infiltrated Skynet and the trap set by Skynet seems to work, the idiotic villain syndrome kicks in again and seals the machine’s fate.

The terminator (amazing digital mock up of Arnie BTW) has John Connor in its clutches. And what does the dumb fuck do? It throws John Connor around as if it’s a WWF wrestling match.

What the fuck? Here you have an all powerful robot who can literally tear humans apart with its arms, standing off against its arch nemesis and instead of immediately ripping John Connors head off, it throws him around giving him time to recuperate, find some arms etc.

How stupid can you be? In my opinion for this stupidity the machines deserve to lose. Who said machines are smarter than humans?

Welcome to my new Blog

After 4 years of good service it was time for a change, because Pivot couldn’t do some of the things that WordPress does offer. So, for a while I’ll be running two weblogs but my old Pivot based blog will disappear and taken over by this new WordPress based blog.

The content will remain the same. So, be prepared for more stuff on Animation, DVDs, art books, music, merchandise and other crap!

Hello world!

Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging!

When it comes to releasing animated movies based on their superhero catalog DC Universe has established quite a name. One of their recent direct-to-DVD movies is for the Green Lantern. The Green Lantern is one of the bigger names in the DC universe but hasn't received a dedicated animated series or movie yet.

Green Lantern First Flight SE DVD

This year Green Lantern: First Flight was released, the first animated movie fully dedicated the Green Lantern alone. The DVD is released similar to the other animated movies in a 1-disc version and a 2-disc Special Edition.

The Special Edition comes with a foil based slip cover which is always a nice addition. The first disc contains the movie plus some extra features.

In terms of extras the second disc usually is pretty worthless, and the Green Lantern's second disc is no exception. The 'extras' include a digital copy, one of the most useless 'extras' thinkable. If you have the original movie on a disc, then who's to stop you from making a digital copy yourself?

Also, the documentaries included on the second disc are not that interesting to pay the extra money for. One the things I seriously dislike about the DC Universe's extras is the inclusions of select episode of other properties.

Included in this release are two episodes from the Justice League animated series. There's a very big chance if you got this DVD that you also own the JL series, which makes the inclusion of these two episodes pretty redundant.

What is your favourite movie?

Hard to make a choice between all those great movies? Well, no worries because Flickchart helps you with determining what your favourite movie all time is.

It works very simple, Flickchart displays two movies and you pick which one of the two you like best. Sometimes this can be hard when two movies that you both like are shown, but the end goal is to determine which one you like best.

So, in the end you end up with one movie that you prefer over all other movies and that should be your favourite movie. A very cool website, but also very addictive :)

Paramore – Brand New Eyes

The first time I heard Misery Business I somehow was not impressed. But afterwards I really liked it. After hearing Brand New Eyes for the first time I can’t say I’m impressed. There’s not really a song that stands out or distinguishes itself from the other songs.

All of the songs sound alike and on first listen are pretty bland.

The first time I saw the video clip and listened to the song 'Misery Business' from Paramore I somehow wasn't impressed. Perhaps I didn't listen to the song well, or was preoccupied with other stuff and I just didn't pay much attention to it. Either way, when I heard the song again a few months later -this time on Guitar Hero- I loved it. I eventually got their album 'Riot' and immediately liked the album and soon it even became one of my favorite albums.

I was pretty excited when a follow up to 'Riot' was announced, namely 'Brand New Eyes'. And when I heard that there would also be a limited edition I of course had to get the Limited Edition.

Paramore | Brand New Eyes LE

The LE comes in a box which is loaded with goodies. The content of the LE is very cool. It of course includes the new album 'Brand New Eyes' which for the LE comes in a digipack. The digipack contains two disc, the CD itself of course and also a DVD. The booklet is not included in the CD digipack itself but is included separately.

Aside from the CD the LE also contains a LP version on which acoustic versions are included of two tracks, including the first single Ignorance. The LP itself is orange colored instead of traditional black. It's not likely I'll play the LP but the orange see-through color makes it look really nice.

A mini poster is also included along with 5 postcards, one for each band member. Finally a book is included which features Hayley's hand written lyrics for the album, including different doodles which she apparently drew during the writing process ;)

Paramore | Brand New Eyes | Limited edition box

All in all a very cool LE gift box set. Only 15.000 copies were made of the LE. I've got number # 9063 and I think it's sold out at most places. Get yours if you still can!

Back to Speed

Last weekend I got a Sony Vaio Laptop. I didn't like the performance of my iMac so getting a Macbook was out of the question, no matter how cool they look.

Also, this time I wanted to use the computer mainly for accessing the Internet and working on my website and blogs and less for graphics. So, in order to use the computer whenever and more importantly wherever I want I decided to go for a laptop this time instead of a desktop.

My new Vaio looks really cool and includes a BluRay player which is nice in case I decide to switch to BluRay discs instead of DVDs.

But more importantly it has Windows 7 installed as the OS which I'm hearing good things about. Windows 7 visually looks different than XP (duh) so the first few days it's going to be getting used to the specifics of Windows 7. So far I like the themes and the speed with which I can open files again ;)
