WTF: Sex Galaxy?

Yesterday I was looking for a movie to watch at home because it was raining like hell. One of the movies I stumbled upon was Sex Galaxy from 2008 and my first reaction was ‘What the Fuck’?

Sex usually does grab my attention (hey I’m a guy, we’re very simple) but this looked so incredibly stupid I just had to share it.

And no, I did not watch the movie :)

Angry Birds The Movie?

Various sites including CartoonBrew are reporting that the makers of the iPhone game Angry Birds are trying to sell the idea of Angry Birds to Hollywood to make movie out of it.

A movie about birds who are angry because pigs stole their eggs. Sounds too crazy to be true, so I’m very curious to see how it would be made into a movie.

Ever asked yourself that question? Well WTF should I do with my life has the answers ;) Found it via TheNextWeb (very cool blog)

TVShowsOnDVD reports that a complete box for Scooby-Doo, Where Are You series is coming to DVD on November 9th and it will be in a very cool looking limited box.

Why don’t more companies release these kinds of cool limited edition boxes?

Good Music Sells

It’s safe to say that music record companies blame the Internet and free downloading as the main reason for the decline in CD sales.

But (good) music does sell if it’s in the right format or offer.

Similar to most people I like music and I’m even willing to pay for it. Even though not everyone is willing to pay for a CD most people are willing to pay for music in some other way. Why else do people still buy tickets to see their favourite musicians live for example? Why else do people still pay for a t-shirt from their favourite band or do companies sponsor bands?

The business model of music has changed and CDs areis no longer the main income for musicians anymore. That doesn’t mean that buying a CD is dead yet and there are some cases where it in fact is very appealing to get the original CD – if in the right format.

Recently a few new but also classic albums were (re)released in a special packaging which I simply couldn’t resist. When I unpacked the boxes I wondered why there aren’t more releases like these.

One of the special edition box sets is an oldie namely U2′s Joshua Tree. Originally the Joshua Tree was released mid 80s but in 2007 a limited edition box set was released along with a regular remastered version of the original album. For the same price as the original regular CD sold years back, this time I got a very nice box.

The box of course contains the CD itself with a remastered sound, a second CD containing b-sides and other rarities and a DVD with live performances. Also included is a hardcover booklet with texts about the recording of the CD and new photos from the band by famous music photographer Anton Corbijn. Finally a set of postcards, again featuring photos by Corbijn, is also included in a nice envelope.

One could of course question what use it has to spend money on a band that last year alone already made $ 130 million. Let me ask a question in return, even though Unilever, P&G, Nestlé, Sony, Apple etc. are making billions per year does it stop you from buying their products?

This deluxe box of U2′s Joshua Tree is a perfect example how record labels should still try to sell CDs if they make something special of it. A regular CD offers little added value in comparison to a free download. A (limited) boxed set like this however is much more appealing.

Jackass in 3D

The loonatics from Jackass apparently are back and this time it’ll be in 3D. A new movie will be coming October this year.

Though I like the Jackass show and movies, I think the whole 3D is seriously overrated and overhyped. After seeing 3 movies in 3D I’m already tired of it and I think it’s nothing more than a gimmick that adds no value to a movie. And what the point in Jackass being in 3D? What were the makers thinking, “Oh, let the audience also feel a sense of pain”?

Am I the only one who wants to see movies in plain 2D?

New Road Runner Toon Clip

As mentioned before there will be a new Road Runner cartoon coming this year to try and revitalize the Looney Tunes franchise.

The cartoon will be fully CG and below is a small clip starring Wile E. Coyote who gets blown up.

I can’t say I’m impressed by the CG animation, it looks very basic and lacks detail. It could’ve easily been made by a small studio or even ad agency.

The impact of the gag is also totally lost. Even though it’s a very small clip, I don’t see this type of crap revitalising the Looney Tunes franchise.

Wolverine Anime Style

Madhouse has created four anime series based on Marvel characters specifically for the Asian market. Next year two of those series, Iron and Wolverine, will also be shown in the US market.

Below is the trailer for the Wolverine series and I must say the animation looks very cool. But what else can be expected from Madhouse.

Will definitely be taking a look once the serie has been translated.

McFarlane Toys What’s Up?

I remember a time when McFarlane Toys used to bring out a very cool and awesome toy line every month. It started with the figures based on the Spawn comics but soon other sources also generated cool toys like movies, music and best of all the various horror series inspired by the likes of Giger and Clive Barker for example.

But the last couple of years McFarlane toys seems to be releasing crap after crap with figures based on stupid movies like HALO with each figures looking exactly the same exact for the color scheme of the space suits, generic military figures and sports figures no one outside the US cares about.

What happened to the creativity that lead to fantastic series like the Tortured Souls or the cool re-imagining of classic Fairy Tales or the Dragon series?

I wonder if the current line of crap figures actually sell more than the cool stuff it used to bring out.

Ah, the good old days of looking forward to the next McFarlane toys. Guess I should be glad I don’t have to spend money on toys anymore.
