Order Of The Black Box Set

Zakk Wylde is one of the coolest guitar players walking on this planet and his band Black Label Society does what a metal band needs to do, namely play no nonsense heavy fucking metal.

A few weeks back BLS’ 8th studio album Order of the Black was released and via the webstore a special edition Order of the Black box set was offered in the shape of Thor’s Hammer and containing some goodies.

F.A.C.T.S. Rocks

Last weekend was the 20th edition of F.A.C.T.S., the biggest convention of its kind in the Benelux and it was a great event again.

This year was the first time for me as an artist. And many thanks goes out to Richard Boom for arranging a table for me to scare people with my comic Hellene, Devil Girl from Hell.

One of the biggest benefits of having a stand at these kinds of conventions is the possibility to talk to colleagues, friends and of course the people who appreciate your art. For that alone F.A.C.T.S. was a great event to attend.

Epic Fail Rebrand

Life is all about change and companies also change in order to cope with different situations. One of the biggest changes for a company is the rebranding of the company name or logo itself.

There have been numerous rebrands in the last decade, some good, but also very bad resulting in the reaction ‘what the fuck were they thinking?’.

Last month Big 4 accountant company PricewaterhouseCoopers changed its name and logo and this rebranding definitely is one of the stupidiest rebranding I’ve seen in quite a while.

Accountants are boring, and accountant firms are a collection of boring and serious people in suits all collected in a very strict hierarchal organisation who overcharge their services because no sane person would want to work as an accountant.

But regardless if you like the accountants profession, PricewaterhouseCoopers has a classy sounding name also made visual by its very recognisable and stylish logo and working there is careerwise very good.

This is what the old logo looked like:

Then why in godsname would PricewaterhouseCoopers decide to change its classy logo to an ugly, unappealing, boring, non-distinctive logo like they currently have?

The new logo:

Changing the name from PricewaterhouseCoopers to the abbrevation (which was also commonly used BTW) PwC is understable. But what idiot approved this garbage? The colored crap above the name PwC seems like the logo is a very bad resolution image. And the colors used are faux-pas for web usage. The font is itself is as generic as can be and anything but classy.

Perhaps PwC should just stick to their boring job of offering assurance and tax services instead of trying to redesign their logo.

EPIC FAIL!

The Superman/Batman: Apocalypse feature was mediocre but the packaging looks nice. I got the 2-disc Special Edition Amazon exclusive which also had a mini litho.

The latest entry in the DC Universe direct-to-DVD animated movie stars Superman and Batman against super villain Darkseid this time while also introducing Supergirl.

The movie could’ve easily been called Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Supergirl because they all play a big role. But perhaps female superheroes don’t sell as well as their male counterparts and that’s why Wonder Woman and Supergirl are left out of the title.

Skulls and Nipple Rings

Tired of the standard family CG animated features from Disney and Dreamworks? Danish directors Kresten Vestbjerg Andersen and Thorbjørn Christoffersen made a parody of the fantasy genre with their barbarian spoof Ronal the Barbarian to be released next year.

Below is the trailer for this feature, found via a Dutch Animation blog.

It has skulls, pentagrams and nipple rings. How can this not be a success?

Well, according to animator Arin Hanson veeery excited!

Green Lantern TAS

TVGuide reports that Cartoon Network will debut a Green Lantern Animated Series next year.

With Bruce Timm leading the new animated series it’s almost a guarantee for success even though Green Lantern for me has never been a popular character.

But then again very few characters in the DC universe are favourites of mine because I was more of a Marvel guy. However starting with Batman TAS Bruce Timm and Paul Dini did an amazing job bringing the DC characters to live in all the various toon incarnations. And even though I’m not a big DC fan, the various animated series and movies have made me a fan of the animated DC Universe.

So, in this case the specs are in favour of this new Green Lantern TAS also being a success. Can’t wait!

I posted previously about this fanbox. Objectively it’s a cool box and if record companies released more of these kinds of special version I’m sure music would sell better.

The fanbox limited to only 1666 editions contains:

  • An urn housing
  • The CD in digipack format
  • Four buttons
  • Certificate of Authenticity

The urn looks pretty cool with decorations on all 4 sides.

F.A.C.T.S. will be on the 23rd and 24th of October, do come by!
