Batman Year One First Look

The next direct-to-DVD animated feature in the DC Universe is for another Batman flick, this time based on the classic Frank Miller comic story.

The first trailer has been released and animationwise it looks very promising – as can be expected from the DC Universe animated movies.

The Green Lantern Movie wasn’t a big hit last weekend in the US according to Box Office Mojo, but an animated cartoon series featuring this DC superhero is still planned to happen.

The first trailer for this CG animated series has been released and it looks more like a computer game than an animated series IMO.

But seeing that the same creative crew as for the other DC animated series are behind it, I still have good hope it’ll be watchable.

SuperHeroHype has a few images and a clip from the new direct-to-DVD Green Lantern animated feature and based on this short clip the animation looks really good.

The first Green Lantern animated movie sucked, but Emerald Knights looks promising again.

The number of Thor related spin offs is getting crazier and crazier as we get closer to the release of the big live action movie this summer.

Aside from a new animated series, there’s also an animated 4 part mini series in the works telling the tale of the rivalry between the brothers Thor and Loki.

Thor isn’t one of my favourite superheroes and looking at the first trailer (see below) it seems very dull.

I am intrigued by the animation style though, it resembles the 3D rendering similar in Appleseed.

The Art of Joe Jusko

Joe Jusko is an amazing fantasy painter whom I was introduced to via his superhero paintings for Marvel.

In 1992 card maker Skybox released a first ever, namely an all painted series of trading cards featuring superheroes from the Marvel Universe.

Thor: Tales of Asgard

With Thor’s big live action movie coming up, Marvel’s also trying to set up different tie ins to cash in on the upcoming movie.

Their tie in is also a direct to DVD animated movie, namely Thor: Tales of Asgard.

Unlike the DC universe animated movies the animation in Marvel’s animated movie is of lesser quality. The movies are somewhat enjoyable but not in the same league as their counterparts from DC.

With a big live action movie coming this year for DC’s superhero Green Lantern there’ll be quite some tie ins with the movie.

One of those is the second animated movie from DC animated for Green Lantern, namely Emerald Knights for which a trailer has been released.

The first movie First Flight sucked and I’m not a fan of Green Lantern, but the animation looks supercool so I might give it a shot.

This year looks to be full with superhero movies. Some will be new like Thor and Captain America, but there’s also some old favs like one of the first superhero movies that started the superhero movie craze, namely X-men.

The 3rd movie sucked balls and pretty much killed the series, but the new movie will see the X-men return to the beginning and will hopefully revitalize the franchise. Below is the first trailer for it and in terms of mutants it looks cool again.

Lets hope the movie is also cool.

The Superman/Batman: Apocalypse feature was mediocre but the packaging looks nice. I got the 2-disc Special Edition Amazon exclusive which also had a mini litho.

The latest entry in the DC Universe direct-to-DVD animated movie stars Superman and Batman against super villain Darkseid this time while also introducing Supergirl.

The movie could’ve easily been called Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Supergirl because they all play a big role. But perhaps female superheroes don’t sell as well as their male counterparts and that’s why Wonder Woman and Supergirl are left out of the title.
