GUITAR BUYING GUIDE

ELECTRIC VS ACOUSTIC

One of the biggest decision is which kind of guitar you want. Is it going to be an acoustic guitar, or an electric guitar?

The biggest difference between these two kinds of guitars is of course the sounds.

THE ACOUSTIC GUITAR

An acoustic guitar doesn't need to be plugged into an amplifier in order to get sound from it. You can play it unplugged. An acoustic guitar in terms of looks is immediately distinguishable from an electric. Just walk into any music store and ask for an acoustic and you'll immediately see what I mean.

I don't know anything about acoustic nor do I like them, so I won't discuss acoustic guitars.

I like the electric guitar much better, simply because it produces more noise :)

THE ELECTRIC GUITAR

The electric guitar needs to be plugged into an amplifier (a.k.a. amp) in order to hear the sound of the guitar, hence the name 'electric' guitar. Even though each electric guitar has a sound of its own, the amplifier is the other important factor determining the sound of the guitar. More on that later.

An electric guitar can be played without an amplifier, but I don't see a reason to do that, because then you might've well gotten an acoustic guitar.

The advantage of an electric guitar is that you can get different sounds and effects with the same guitar depending on the settings of your amp and other peripherals you may hook up to your amp. And an electric guitar just sounds cooler than the acoustic in my opinion.
