Sony had aquired the license to various Sunbow cartoons a while back, including the Transformers, but up til now no info was given in regards to any releases. Coming November the first title will be released, namely Transformers: The Movie will then be re(re?)released, as a 20th anniversay Special Edition. For that a special website has been up and running, and at Transformers The Movie you can check out more details.
Staying on the animation front, famous toon researcher Jerry Beck has written an article for Variety summing up 10 of the most influential cartoons in history. Read the article at Variety.
Hasbro will be releasing a couple of well known bots from the Original Transformers serie, updated to current standards in their Classics line, coming this November. At Hasbro the first pictures have been posted. The first series will include (of course) Optimus Prime and Megatron. Along with these two icons, Rodimus, Starscream and Astrotrain will also be released. Bumblebee will probably be the 6th figure to be released in this line. Judging from the first few pcitures I must conclude that especially Rodimus and Starscream look very cool. All the figures in this new line have their faces better matcing to their cartoon versions, than the original toys. Megatron is also a gun again, though it definitely looks like a toy gun with all the wild colors and shape. But I guess it`s the best those hypocrite, guncrazy Americans can do.
As a kid I was quite a fan of the original Transformers. And now that I`m two decades older, I must admit that I still find the Transformers pretty cool. Fortunately Transformers` makers, Hasbro and Takara, also feel the same way and up till today numerous merchandise for the Transformers have been released.
From the two companies, the Japanese Takara without a doubt releases the coolest items. One of their coolest Transformers item has to be the Masterpiece Optimus Prime which they released last year to tie in with the 20th anniversary of the original
Transformers. I originally had missed out on this big bot. When it was released it quickly sold out, and got OOP. No wonder actually, because it is definitely one of the coolest Transformers items to be released in Transformers history.
But last week one my favorite anime shop - Archonia - apparently still had one left in stock. So now I`m also the proud owner of one of the best Optimus Prime figures till date.
I`m quite a fan of the masterful Batman Animated Series from the late 90s. Story wise, but especially the art are on the best ever in (TV) animation. WB knew this and in the years Batman TAs has spawned many merchandise tie ins.
The creative team behind Batman TAS is also responsible for the Justice League (Unlimited) cartoon, and again JLU has also spawned many merchandise tie ins (though not as extenisve as Batman TAS). One of the cooler merchandise items are the maquettes, and especially the Batman version.
For those who missed out on some of the cooler figures from the McFarlane Monsters line, in October McFarlane will be rereleasing the coolest femme fatales monsters in a 3 figure box. Included will be Red Hiding Hood from Twisted Fairytales (MM 4), Dorothy from Twisted Land of Oz (MM 2) and Elizabeth Bathory from Six Faces of Madness (MM 3). Pictures at Spawn.com
A friend once showed me a couple of episodes of the anime Escaflowne once. And even though I liked the show, I only saw the serie up till episode 9 and never watched the following episodes.
A few years back Bandai released the entire series. First as loose volumes, later as a limited collected edition with a figure. And last year again as a (limited) collected (this time without a action figure).
Both times I missed out on the collected edition. But last April Bandai released Escaflowne again as a complete collection. This time as part of their 'Anime Legends' line, cutting the price to a third of the collected edition from last year. Needless to say, this was an offer I couldn`t resist.
Well it seems summer has started early here, with beautiful summer-like weather the whole week. So didn`t feel like updating my site. New updates perhaps next week, when the weathers crappy again.
Media Blasters will be releasing the cartoon Galaxy High on DVD in a couple of weeks, and apparently the DVD cover art for vol. 1 is available. At TVShowsOnDVD they have the art for show. I must admit that even though I will definitely buy this disc when it comes out (because Galaxy High is a cool cartoon), the art isn`t really appealing. Too much characters cramped on the cover, and I think even some of the main characters are missing on the front. Normally I would link to the Media Blasters own website, but unfortunately their website really sucks. Why do people, and especially companies, think that building your site in Flash wil improve browsing experience?
06 May 06 - 18:42More Transformers The Movie rumours
There`s actually a real live movie coming for the 80s icons (and masterpiece imo) the Transformers. Since the announcement, a lot of rumours have been circulating on the net. At Aintitcool we get some insights from the director, Michael Bay, himself.
02 May 06 - 20:09Red Sonja coming to the big screen?
The lovely redhead with that cool metal bikini may be coming to the big screen, largely due to the success of Dynamite`s commercially succesful comic series which began last year. Read the news at Newsarama. A hot redhead in a metal bikini wielding a sword, how cool is that! Box office winner I tell ya.
