27 June 06 - 21:18She-ra Variant

In less than a month legendary cartoon series She-ra will appear for the first time on DVD as a "Best of" box first, and thereafter as season box sets. Two weeks after its initial release, at WizardWorld Chicago, the same box will also be available with a variant cover according to He-Man.org.

The variant packaging wil feauture new box art, as well as 2 new cards that apparently won`t be available anywhere else. Also the WW variant will be limited to 1000 copies. Again, we don`t we get such cool things in Europe?

27 June 06 - 21:12The Pooh Soap ends?

In another money wasting, good for nothing jurisdicial crapfest, The Supreme Court in the US refused to hear the claim from A.A. Milne`s granddaughter. A.A. Milne is of course the creator of Winnie the Pooh, who has passed away a long time ago. And the claim was of course about money.

Basically the Milne family wants the copyright back to the Winnie the Pooh stories, because he who controls the Pooh copyrights, has easy access to loads of money. Disney has been doing this with Winnie the Pooh for decades, and of course isn`t willing to give that up. And the Milne family on the other hand wants a piece of that big money pie, if not the whole money pie.

The news about the latest in this ongoing legal battle between Disney and the Milne family is at Yahoo Finance. What I understand from all that mumbo jumbo, is that there is no case at this point, and that Disney is legally entitled to exploit Winnie the Pooh to the fullest extent without having to pay a dime to any Milne member. So for now, all the toddlers can go to bed without any stress, because the big Mouse is still entitled to flood the market with Winnie the Pooh stuff.

26 June 06 - 19:42Futurama back on TV

After being years off the small screen, thanks to the morons from Fox, cult toon serie Futurama (created by Matt "Simpsons" Groening & David X Cohen) will return to the small screen once again with brand new episode, courtesy of Comedy Central. At least 13 new episodes will be produced, and undoubtley more will follow if Futurama proves to be succesful.

The original voice cast will return and provide the voices again, and reruns will also be shown on Comedy Central.

Now, I know here in the Netherlands we don`t have Comedy Central (like many other cool things that just don`t happen here). But I`m sure all these episodes will eventually also be released on DVD, and of course all episodes will ondoubtley also be online within a couple of minutes after the ending of the first episode :) So finally some good news again about a cool cartoon show.

26 June 06 - 00:28Color reign

Well, Oranje got their ass kicked (again!) by Portugal (for the zillionth time - again!) and are out of the World Cup. That in itself is unfortunately no suprise, since the Dutch Team has only won once from Portugal in history and that was 15 years ago.

But the most astounding thing was, that 16 yellow cards were given in this match, of which four became a red card - a new record for a WC! I just don`t know if it`s record we would should be proud of.

Anyway the World Cup is over for the Dutch Team, and all orange decorations can (finally?) be taken off form all the windows, buildings, streets etc. The saddest thing is also that the Dutch actually didn`t play one good game for which they can be remembered. Well, at least over four years we`ll have another try, assuming the Dutch team will make it through the qualification.

I guess many people can finally book their vacations now :)

25 June 06 - 15:46Samurai Seven animated

Akira Kurosawa`s legendary Samurai Seven has been picked up as an anime, and has been released on region 1 DVD by Funimation. I haven`t seen the original Samurai Seven, so I can`t really comment wether or not it really is a masterpiece as some claim it to be.

But after seeing a sampler for the anime version, I was certainly interested to see the anime serie.

24 June 06 - 19:40Upgrade

Ok people I just upgraded, I just don`t know yet if it was the correct version ;) So if things aren`t working properly, it may be because of that. Just let me know, and Ill try to fix.

Update: I accidently erased some comments when I was testing Spamquiz.  Hope no one feels bad about, but it wasn`t intentional on my side. At least I know Spamquiz isn`t functional yet here. Crap, I`ll try work on that...

22 June 06 - 19:14Blackstar coming to DVD

It was known for a while now that BCI Eclipse would release some classic Filmation cartoons on DVD. He-man was the first, and next month She-ra will also be released on DVD for the first time (not counting the Christmas Special which was released last Christmas also by BCI).

But now BCI has made their next highly anticipated series release known, namely Blackstar! Blackstar was another cool cartoon from Filmation, set in a scifi/fantasy world. I doubt many people will remember it, but Blackstar IMO was a very cool cartoon about a astronaut who stranded on a fantasy planet somewhere. Blackstar receives a magic sword, one half of a powerful sword. His nemesis Oerlord has the other half, and tries to get that half back. And so a battle between good and evil ensues.

Blackstar could be considered the predescor to He-man, and in August will finally be released on DVD. Read the news at TVShowsonDVD.

20 June 06 - 19:39Hopefully not the End

The Finnish gothic band Nightwish has released a new album titled "End of an Era". Beside the good news that there`s a new album, the better news is that this album will also be released as a Limited Edition Box with two cool statues!

16 June 06 - 22:06Lucky Orange

The Dutch Team actually won from the Ivory Coast in their 2nd game on the WC with 2-1!! Woohoo! Oranje goes on to the next round (with lots of luck though). There`s one match in group C between Oranje and Argentina, and I`m afraid Holland is going to get their asses kicked by the Argentinan machine (they beat Serbia & Montenegro today with 6 - 0 !!). But who cares, the Dutch have gone through!

11 June 06 - 12:17Last Exile Complete, at Last

Recently I finally received the complete collection of the anime serie Last Exile. There are a few complete versions available. And after some comparison and doubt, I finally chose the most recent release, the Range Murata Complete Collection.

11 June 06 - 11:39WC Germany 2006

Has finally started! Though I`m not that big a sportsfan, I must say that I`m - like the majority of the people- quite excited that the Wolrd Cup has finally started. At least there`s something on TV now with the summer almost beginning.

In the first few games, there were some slightly suprising results, namely Trinidad & Tobago forcing Sweden to a draw (cheers for Beenhakker and his crew :), and Poland losing from Ecuador. There were also some result that I (and many other people here) would have liked to seen differently. The Germans of course won.

Also Argentina beat the Ivory Coast yesterday, though I was certain that the second goal was offside. The problem is that the Netherlands have to play the Ivory Coast coming Friday. And the Ivory Coast has to win that match, otherwise there`s little chance they`ll make it to the next round. So the Netherlands will probably be facing a highly motivated Ivory Coast. Not my idea of an ideal opponent.

But the big game is of course today, with the Dutch team playing their first WC game against Serbia and Montenegro. So far I`ve predicted every game wrong. I predicted Netherlands will win with 1-0, but seeing how every prediction of mine thus far has been completely wrong, I fear the worst. Just a few mroe hours and we`ll know if we can take down the orange decorations again that have taken over the view here..

05 June 06 - 12:41Orange miracle

The Worldcup won`t start for another 4 days, but yesterday a Dutch soccer team made history. I`m not talking about the regular Dutch national soccer team, but the team under 21 year which was playing the European Championship in Portugal for national teams under 21 years.

Never before did a Dutch soccer team under 21 reach the semi finals at a EC, but yesterday the Dutch team not only reached the finals, but they actually won! So the Dutch soccer team under 21 is European Champion. If the big boys can repeat the same thing the coming weeks, it may turn out to be a good summer :-)

03 June 06 - 20:19Just 6 more days...

...before the World Cup in Germany starts!! Sure, the Dutch team will probably fail in the first round with Argentina amongst others in the same group, but I`m stil excited to see the World Cup.

I have not much knowledge of soccer other than you win if you score more goals than your opponent, and that it would be cool if the Dutch team would come far.
