After their masterpiece Batman TAS, the award winning creative team of Batman TAS devoted their attention to that other DC icon, namey Superman. Sadly from all the Timm/Dini DC toons (Batman TAS, Superman TAS, Batman Beyond, Justice League) Superman TAS is by far the least appealing and mediocre at best.
But to make a sound judgment, and also to complete my Timm/Diniverse collection, I did get the first two volumes of the Superman TAS DVDs.
At Newsarama there`s an interview with Paul Levitz, Publisher and President of DC Comics, about DC`s projects in the animation field. Apparently 3 direct-to-video`s are in the works amongst them one for Teen Titans and one for Superman. The Superman flick seems to be the most interesting as it will focus on Superman vs. Doomsday, and yes the same Doomsday that killed Superman.
More good news is that Bruce Timm will be overseeing the projects.
The other day I was finally cleaning my room again where all my stuff (and a lot of dust) lies. And in order to clean some stuff, I had to remove or reorder a couple of things. And when you reorder some things, or place them somewhere else for a brief moment, you sometimes get a funny scene.
So now we know that even fierce Dragons like sour candy
(apologies for the bad joke, but I thought it was a funny pic)
23 July 06 - 11:30The Schmurf Movie - schmurfin`cool?
Well the creative bankrupcy in Hollywood keeps continuing, as the Schmurfs are also going to get the CGI treatment and to be released in 2008 on the big screen, according to Yahoo! News.
The Schmurfs are IMO another cartoon icon (expecially here in Europe), so I`m quite curious to see what will happen to them when they also get raped and turned into CGI characters. But it also just shows how little creativity is left in Hollywood. Everything seems to be either a remake, a sequel, or some already excisting property that gets made into a movie.
At least the good news is that Schmurfs are finally getting some attention again.
The trailer for the upcoming 80`s toon stars Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is up and running, and you see it at the well know apple site.
I still remember the Turtles being real cool in their original cartoon, and having a massive merchandise & movie spin-off. The cartoon itself was of course a very cool cartoon which made every kid wanting to be as cool as a ninja.
The good news is that a new movie is in the make. But I`m in general absolutely no cgi fan. I also don`t like the majority of the cgi toons, including those from Pixar.
So my first thoughts when I saw this trailer were ambigious. Of course I like the fact that TMNT are getting a new movie. But on the other hand, I`m not that impressed with the visuals. The trailer thus far look like it`s a commercial for some computer game, and not for a movie.
Also when you look at the trailer objectively, basically the turtles are only running in this short clip. There`s no real action, nor does it give away anything of the plot (assuming there will be a plot for this movie). So I`m afraid the TMNT franchise might stay dead like it has been the last couple of years (and yes I`m aware of the fact that there is a revamped cartoon - so you draw the conclusion :)
BCI has released some more info about their plans with the Filmation library for 2006 and 2007. Expect to see Bravestarr ("Strength of the bear!!!") and the Ghostbusters to finally appear on DVD in 2007. Also She-ra and Dungeons & Dragons will both be released this year.
Even though I`m an animation fan, The Sipmsons (along with the Looney Tunes release initially) is a serie I like to watch, but unfortunately didn`t have on DVD yet. Going into their 18th season this September, the Simpsons have become somewhat of a cultural icon. So I just couldn`t resist getting the Simpsons on DVD. And what better way to start with season seven!
Frazetta`s awesome character Deathdealer will return to comics after being published by Verotik years ago. This time there`s a new publisher and creative behind teh comic, and the first new art work has been spotted. Here you can see the first litho that will be on sale at the San Diego Comicon.
All I can say is, awesome! My only complaint, and it`s really only a small one, is where the hell did the skull on the belt go to?
To the long list of cool cartoons coming out on DVD this year a few more can be added, because Warner Bros and BCI have released some more info about a few of their top properties according to TVShowsOnDVD.
Expect to see the entire 3rd season of the Justice League to appear as a 4-disc DVD set on 24th October 2006. On this date we`ll also see the release of the complete 2nd season of Batman Beyond, also as a 4-disc set!
In the same month but 2 weeks earlier, expect to see the first boxset for She-ra: Princess of Power. A month earlier, to be precise on 5 September, the final box set of He-man and the Masters of the Universe will be released, containing the last episodes of the 2nd season.
Whew, gotta start saving to get all those boxes :)
I - like most people - like soft drinks, and I think I`ve tried about every soft drink available in the supermarket at least once. Some were kept to that one time, but others are my main drink. Of each of the soft drinks that I drink often (some even daily) I also tried the light versions, just to see what they taste like. And I can honestly say that the light versions all taste like crap!
I really don`t understand why women torture themselves drinking this crap, thinking they won`t get fat. If you don`t want to get fat, exercise more, lazy pigs! And of course there are some feminine men, sissies IMO, who also drink the light version instead of grabbing the tasteful original.
Why this rant about light drinks? Well, yesterday I finally bought a lite version of a product that didn`t suck, and is even better than the original.
Because since yesterday I got the Nintendo DS lite!
It has been made official, BCI Eclipse (who has released the He-man DVDs for region 1) will be the releasing the classic cartoon Dungeons & Dragons on DVD. Read the news at TVShowsOnDVD.
Of course D&D has already been released as a boxset in the UK. But these were simple keepcases inside a flimsy box with no extras. Seeing how BCI has handled He-man there`s a big chance the region 1 version will be far superior to the region 2 UK version. There`s not date set yet though, nor any other info available.
The beginning of this week was the first official heat wave of this year in the Netherlands, and it`s still friggin warm here! I think I sweated out my entire body content this week, so I hope it starts raining soon and the temperature cools a bit real soon...
Perhaps then I`ll feel like updating again with some more interesting stuff :)
The teaser trailer for the live action Transformers movie is up and running at the official website. I`m not overly impressed yet, nor excited by the teaser trailer to see the movie. So as a teaser it`s done a bad job, let`s hope it isn`t a sign how the movie is going to be...
An a postive side, the teaser for Spider-man 3 which has been online since last week, looks much more promossing. The black costume, Venom and Sandman. Who knows, Spider-man 3 may be the best of the 3 Spider-man franchise. We`ll just have to wait another year for both movies....
