29 August 07 - 20:27Transformers: NOT the best of Don Figueroa
I like good art and I like the Transformers. So when IDW released a book called Transformers: the Best of Don Figueroa I just couldn`t resist. This week the book arrived, ad I must say it is the most disappointing book I've seen in a very long time.
Frank Cho is an amazing comic book artist, but even more he is also an excellent illustrator (not many comic book artists can say) Cho is mainly know for his independent comic Liverty Meadows (which is really hilarious BTW) and since a few years also for his various comic work for Marvel. Image Comics recently released a book collecting Cho’s cover work for Liberty Meadows.
This year a new book by Master Fantasy painters Boris Vallejo and his wife and colleague Julie Bell was released, namey The Fabulous Women of Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell. The title The Fabulous Women is actually redundant since this Boris’ and Julie’s main object has always been painting women. And thus like their previous book it’s again filled with lucious paintings of pretty women, barbaric women, classic women etc.
19 August 07 - 22:08Sky Lynx next in line for a reissue?
Seibertron mentions a post on the ACToys forum which has pictures of Sky Lynx in a reissue package which would imply that Sky Lynx is next in line to be re-released. Since Sky Lynx is one of the few cool new Transformers in season 3 so I hope the rumour is true. It would make a nice addition to my small TF collection.
Newsarama posted the sad news that comic book artist Mike Wieringo passed away last Sunday at the age of 44 due to a hart attack. Sympathies go out to his friends & family.
Variety reports that Regency films may make a live action movie of the 80s classic toon Voltron. Voltron was one if the more popular robot anime in the 80s, a story about 5 teenagers who each piloted a robot lion and together formed the giant robot Voltron who defended the universe against evil aliens.
IESB on the other hand reports that G.I. Joe may also be made into a live action film, with Stephen Sommers (The Mummy, The Mummy Returns and Van Hellsing) in the directing chair. The news doesn't mention if the movie will be based on the origina toys, or on the 80s toon. But nevertheless, after seeing the Transformers movie both properties could be made into a cool movie.
Lots of things happening on the the animation front. Just too busy updating this site with all the cool news laterly (hey, it's also vacation time for me :) but I'll try to improve that in the coming days.
The first thing is the new Transformers cartoon which is supposed to debute next year. At this summer's Comic Con the first footage of this new animated series, called Transformers Animated, was shown. A preliminary poster was already posted a few weeks back and the designs looked like crap.
Looking at the preview the designs still look like crap. The animation itself looks very good, but the toon seems to be taking a very childish approach (not suprising looking at the kid design of the Transformers) I think thus far this is going to be the most disappointing incarnation of the Transformers.
