Neon Genesis Evangelion is undoubtly one of the most popular and well known anime series and has had a few releases, first on VHS and later on DVD. On DVD it has already been releasess twice, the latest incarnation being the Platinum serie with remastered sound and image. The Platinum edition is also available in two versions, namely the single disc release which also contained a sleeve and a booklet with background info. And a thin pack collection collecting all the discs but without the booklets.
This November ADV will be re-releasing the Platinum series, this time in a tin box. From the limited information available on the Internet I've been able to gather that the only difference between the already avaible Platinum serie is the tin box. Inside the tin box the thinpack version will be included. But besides the tin box I see no other difference or extra between the regular thin pack box and this new to be released version. There is one big difference though, namely the SRP. Whereas the thinpack box has a SRP of $ 89.95, the new tin box has a SRP of $ 129.95. Seems like a lot of money for a lunch box IMO. Fortunately I already have the serie on DVD so I can easily skip this release.
Variety reports that Jerry O'Flaherty will direct the upcoming CGI Thundercats movie from WB. I don't know the guy, and apparently this will be his first movie so can't really comment on that. But the Thundercats as a CGI movie really doesn't have my vote.
There aren't many programs or channels on the Dutch TV which focus on new rock and metal bands, so I rarely see any new stuff nowadays. But a few months back I heard the song "I'm so sick" from Flyleaf and was immediately hooked to the song. After listening to their entire album I was quite impressed, since the album contained more songs that are at least equally good as "I'm so sick".
On Flyleaf's website it was announced last week week that at the end of this month a Special Edition of their debut album will be released containing a DVD and bonus material on the CD. Even better news is that they'll be supporting Korn on their European tour and will be in the Netherlands coming January! My only complaint is that they'll be playing in that shitty Amsterdamn again instead of Rotterdam.
Whether you're a Batman fan or not, I think quite some people will remember the live action TV series from the 60s starring Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin. Though in some ways it may be the worst Batman incarnation ever, it's undeniably also camp at best and loved by many just because it's so bad. Sure the panty hose worn by West is ridiculous, are the special effects laughable, and can you see the Joker mustache behind the make up, but still somehow it was fun to watch.
Many have therefore longed for a DVD release and wondered why it hasn`t happened. As with many things, the reason is money and more specifically legal issues about money. DVDguy posts the possible legal issues preventing this release from happening. We can always dream, but sadly I'm afraid this release may never happen :(
