The Dragon has returned
I'm a little behind uploading all the stuff I got in the last few months. So this is on oldie that has been lying a round for a few months in my house.
Dragonball Z, love it or hate. I fortunately love it, so when Funimation did an official release of this classic series I simply couldn’t ignore it. In this box the first season of Dragonball Z is included, namely the entire Saiyan Saga.
A lot has been said about this particular edition from Funimation. It can be briefly summarized in the following pro’s and con’s.
Pros:
- uncut episodes
- nice digipack box
- all episodes of the first season included
- English and Japanese voices
Cons:
- reframed picture format (the original format was 4:3 and remade to 16:9, thus cropping some of the image)
- different theme song
The major disadvantage is the cropping of the image. Reframing the picture to match a 16:9 screen automatically means some of the pictures have to be cropped. Sometimes it’s a bit obvious since some of the images look like if a bit is missing (which is true). But if you see the episodes on a widescreen TV, it’s actually not that bad.
The theme song is also different than what we used to see on TV, but then again who cares about the theme song anyway. So overall IMO the advantages out weight the disadvantages, and I’m quite happy with this release.
If you’re a Dragonball Z fan, than this is the best way to get the series complete in English as far as I know. Unless you understand Japanese, this release from Funimation is the best to go with.
Season 2 & 3 are also in, even still in their cellophane wrapping, so I won’t be bored for a while.
