Tex Avery’s Droopy
Hm, another release that has been lying around for quite some time, but for which a review was missing. This time it’s a release from animation legend Tex Avery namely Droopy.
Almost everyone knows the name Walt Disney, but fewer people know the name Tex Avery which is a shame. Disney may have perfected animation, but Avery brought us all the standard toon stuff we expect from cartoons like popping eyes, extreme silliness, exaggerated violence etc.
One of the long lasting characters from Avery is Droopy, the depressed looking happy hound with the slow and monotone voice. Droopy’s theatrical adventures are collected in a nice 2 disc release.
Though the title says Tex Avery’s Droopy, this release contains all of Droopy’s theatrical cartoons some of which are not directed by Avery himself but by Michael Lay. Nevertheless it’s still a solid release.
The 2 discs come in a digipack with the inside featuring art from the 3 most important characters, namely Droopy himself the Wolf and of the hottest of the bunch, Red.
The discs feature droopy and Wolf and on the background there’s a big picture of Red. A more than solid release and I hope more Tex Avery stuff gets released on DVD.
