Paramore - Brand New Eyes
The packaging for the LE of Paramore's new album Brand New Eyes is really cool. But the real question is, is the album also good?The first time I heard Misery Business I somehow was not impressed. But afterwards I really liked it. After hearing Brand New Eyes for the first time I can't say I'm impressed. There's not really a song that stands out or distinguishes itself from the other songs.
All of the songs sound alike and on first listen are pretty bland. Riot's songs all had a 'bite'. There was variation within the songs and the songs could easily be distinguished from each other. From up tempo songs like Misery Business, That's What You Get and Miracle for example to songs with an up tempo and slow part combo like Decoy, to ballads like When It Rains (one the best songs from Riot I think BTW)
On Brand New Eyes the songs seem to have little variation. Each song is pretty standard with the same riff throughout the entire song and little variation in terms of verse, bridge and chorus. There are also relatively few up tempo songs, most of them in mid tempo. The sound itself is not as melodic as Riot but sadder in terms of sound.
But this is all after a first listen and I'll need to hear the songs at least one more time in order to really judge what I think about Brand New Eyes.
